Amazon Music —
Black History Month 2020

Amazon Music tasked Laundry Service to come up with a social campaign for January 2021 that highlighted Black History. Focusing on how influential Black History has in all types of genres of popular music we listen to on a daily basis we drew inspiration from jazz, pop music, disco and funk.

Look + Feel—
By drawing visual inspiration from music and its relation to African American abstract expressionism (past + present; i.e. Norman Lewis, Toro y Moi), we’re able to create a uniquely energetic and celebratory feel with color, quirky shapes, hand-drawn elements, and bold type.

We used Gopher as one of our typefaces to extend this organic visual language which gives a similar humanistic feel that has been seen on many film + music posters.

Idea (Axed):
MAINSTREAMS —

Mainstreams was a video series idea where we would’ve asked mainstream talent to speak to the Black artists who have inspired their own work, and how.

Artists will record themselves sharing their Black musical influences - from who they grew up singing to specific samples or inspiration on a track.
